Storm doors with pet doors pre-installed are a great idea…in theory. For a lot of folks the single greatest benefit of these products is that there is no need to cut a hole through a door or wall.
But there are limitations to storm doors with pet doors pre-installed that you may want to consider:
-
Very few styles/colors: Storm doors with pet doors pre-installed are only available in a few styles and colors. It is nearly impossible to find one to fit in nicely with the style of your home.
On the other hand, walk into your local Lowe’s or Home Depot and you will find many options in storm doors and would surely be able to find one to your liking…then just install a pet door in your new storm door.
If you aren’t comfortable with cutting a hole in your new storm door yourself, why not hire a local handyman? This should not cost a lot because it is an easy job that should not take more than an hour…or two hours at most.
- Storm doors with pet doors are prone to shipping damages because of their size and shape. It is very disappointing to wait for your door to arrive only to have it arrive damaged. That’s why PetFrenzy.com no longer sells storm doors with pet doors pre-installed.
Instead, we suggest that you purchase your storm door locally and your pet door here at PetFrenzy.com.
TIP: It’s a good idea to purchase your pet door first so you can bring the pet door’s installation template with you when you shop for your storm door. That way you’ll be able to make sure that your pet door will fit in your storm door.
Don’t forget to make sure that the thickness of the storm door you buy will fit inside the frame of your pet door. (Some pet doors have telescoping/adjustable frames that will fit just about any storm door.)
ANOTHER TIP: If you have sliding glass doors you may want to consider a pet door panel. We carry a huge selection of panels (with pet doors already installed) that will match the height of your sliding glass doors. Pet doors for sliding glass doors are among the easiest styles of pet door to install. Anyone can do it. Really.
Note: If you have vinyl sliding doors, such as those made by Pella or Anderson, you will have to make sure the panel you choose will work with vinyl doors. The following models are designed specifically to work with vinyl sliding doors:
Hale Pet Doors Omni models
Pet 1 Product Patio Pet Doors
Ideal VIP vinyl patio panels
However, if your only option is to install a pet door in your storm door, PetFrenzy.com carries many different sizes, styles and brands that are suitable for storm doors.
