Airline Pet Carriers

It is imperative that you check your individual airline rules and regulations prior to purchasing airline pet carriers.  For example, American Airlines requires a pet reservation and does not allow in cabin pets to and from certain destinations.  According to American Airlines, each animal must be at least eight weeks old.  Additional pet weight limits apply as does a maximum number of pets in the airline pet carrier you bring.  Each airline also has specific airline pet carrier size restrictions.  Even temperature restrictions are in effect.  No dogs will be accepted onto an aircraft if the temperature on the day of travel is too hot or too cold.  And certain small-nose breeds have even more stringent guidelines. 

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, it is usually not recommended to sedate your pets prior to flying.  Sedation can offset their equilibrium which increases chance of injury.  Sedation can also increase risk of cardiovascular and respiratory problems during flight.
